These lovely black-throated loons (or Arctic loon) from a 1962 out-of-print French bird on nesting birds, illustrated by the famous French painter and naturalist Paul Barruel and depicts an adult in mating plumage on the front, in winter plumage on the back.
Black-throated loons (Plongeon arctique in French) are migratory birds and are shown here at a third of their real life size.

The actual print is glued onto the book page along its left edge, making a flap. The underlying page is made of thick white art paper and can serve as a mat. The back is printed as it is a book page.
