β Vintage tarpan print. This lovely piece of tarpan art is a book page Β from an out-of-print French Swiss book published in 1970. Tarpans were Russian horses in the 18th to 20th century. It's unclear whether they were wild breeds or crosses between wild and domestic animals.
The name derives from the Turkish word Tarpani, which means free-ranging horse.
Aren't extinct animals fascinating ?Β
The French name of the species, "Tarpan" (yes, it's the same in French) Β is written underneath the image. The authentic watercolor painting is from French painter and naturalist Paul Barruel.
Frame it and gift it to your favorite horse lover!
