1959 Spurge laurel Daphne Mezereum botanical print

● This lovely vintage Daphne Mezereum print captures the bright pink flowers, red berries and olive-like leaves perfectly. This plant has many common names: spurge laurel, mezereum, mezereon, February daphne or spurge olive.

The print was  extracted from an out-of-print 1959 French book "Dans nos forêts" ("In our forests"), illustrated by Swiss painter Pia Roshardt. 

The French name of the species is Bois Gentil, which means "Gentle wood", a misleading name  as it is actually poisonous. It is however said to have some uses in traditional folk medicine against lice.

● AUTHENTICITY : What you will receive are actual book pages from 1959 that comes from a damaged volume. This page is in very good condition, almost like new.

● As usual in books from that period, the print is glued onto the book page along its left edge, making a flap. The underlying page is made of thick white bouffant paper and can serve as a mat. The back is printed as it is a book page.

● SHIPPING: Ships from Switzerland in a cellophane bag and a cardboard-reinforced envelope. The mat and frame are NOT included.
