Ever wondered how people managed before emails ? Here is a lovely 1936 French dictionary page showing the different ways that mail was sent from the 17th century to the first quarter of the 20th century, from the messenger on foot to the first airplanes, liners and even balloons.
This vintage print illustrated the "Postes" article of an old French dictionary, which of course means "Postal Services". Β The back of the page shows various other dictionary articles, illustrated with smaller engravings.
Can you spot the postman on stilts? That used to be a traditional way of getting around in the Landes region.
A perfect gift for your favorite delivery person, postman, postmaster or postmistress !
